Think, for a moment, of the one prayer you have almost stopped praying. Not the small ones. The old one. The one you have carried so long that you have made a kind of peace with its silence. A child who never came home. A marriage that never softened. A part of yourself you begged God to change from childhood, and it is still there. You still say the words, but somewhere underneath, a quieter voice has taken over: if He can do anything.
